Centerline Measurement Database
can be an aid to determining which plate centerline copies come from. Each plate has unique features and measurements, and along with the knowledge of reliefs, students of this issue can quickly narrow down position possibilities.
Measurements are made from the EDGE of the centerline to the EDGE of the small leaf inside Ornament A/B or Ornament L/M. Variations of measurement will occur between heavily inked impressions, which will measure short, and later worn plate or weak impressions which will measure longer.
Entries marked with an * indicate that no information is currently available. In cases where several copies are available multiple entries are listed. Measurements shown as a blue color are in the online archive. Finally the measurement in parentheses is the centerline thickness at the point shown with the red arrows in the graphic above.
Entries in red indicate positions where plating needs to be confirmed.
It should be noted that the apex of the small leaf inside Ornament L/M is incomplete on some "D" relief positions. This will affect the centerline measurement data but remains consistent.
